2026-2027 FUNDING APPLICATIONS

Application Open Period: March 16, 2026 - April 14, 2026

AGENCY ALLOCATION GRANT APPLICATION

2026 APPLICATION DEADLINE:  Tuesday, April 14, 2026

Kishwaukee United Way Allocation Application for funding during the July 2026 and June 2027 dates paid out quarterly. 

Your completed application must be submitted by Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

By identifying strong partners through the annual allocation process, our United Way continues to focus community resources on the most pressing issues and brings together appropriate partners to solve problems. This will help us to focus funding on the most significant impact within our communities.

We appreciate your organization's contributions and look forward to seeing the impact your programs have had in our county over the past year.

Eligibility:

  1. Before completing the Application for Funding, please confirm that your agency and program will be eligible.

  2. The agency must have a 501 (c) 3 status

  3. The focus of the agency must be human service-oriented:
    -Health & Basic Needs
    -Education focused on children & success in school
    -Financial Stability & Homelessness

  4. Agency programs must serve and benefit the people of the DeKalb County Community.

  5. The agency must have an active, unpaid governing Board of Directors with regular meetings (at least quarterly). Bylaws must be available for review if requested.

  6. The board must be locally or regionally based. If a regional agency, one or more Directors from the DeKalb County community must be included with a good faith commitment to recruit such Directors if not in place at the time of the funding request.

  7. The agency must abide by all current United Way policies, including fundraising campaign policies. Kishwaukee United Way’s annual agency grant program funding requests cannot include grant-writing fees.
     

Important instructions:

  1. Data should be based on the agency’s fiscal year except where otherwise specified.

  2. Choose the correct application based on how many programs will have a funding request (templates have one program, two programs, or three program options)

  3. YOU MAY SAVE AND SUBMIT THE APPLICATION LATER. CLICK HERE FOR A LISTING OF A PDF EXAMPLE OF THE APPLICATION  INFORMATION BEFORE COMPLETING. YOU MAY ALSO PRINT IT OUT, FILL IN THE ITEMS IN A WORD DOCUMENT, REVIEW IT, THEN COPY AND PASTE INTO THE ONLINE FORM.

  4. Many items in the application require files to be attached. This is to streamline the process for all agencies that have the information in various formats. While attaching a document, you must hit upload for the form to submit. Acceptable file types: jpg, jpeg, png, pdf, doc, xls. This form will NOT accept .docx or .xlsx files.  6MB is the file size limit.

COMMUNITY MICRO GRANT

​The Kishwaukee United Way mini-grant program will award up to $2,500 per year to a non-profit organization serving the DeKalb County area zip codes upon submission of a simple application form.

  • The focus of the agency must be human service-oriented:
    -Health & Basic Needs
    -Education focused on children & success in school
    -Financial Stability & Homelessness
    -Youth Development & Community Enrichment

  • They must be a governmental agency program, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, or a start-up organization with evidence of having initiated the process of filing for a 501(c)(3) determination from the IRS.

  • Applicants should apply for the amount needed and will be asked to substantiate that the requested amount is sufficient. In no case should the amount requested exceed $2,500.

  • Grant recipients may need to file a written report 90 days after receiving the grant.

  • Mini grants will be paid out by the end of August 2026.

  • Mini grants will be reviewed and approved by the board of directors during the July 2026 Board meeting, and the Executive Director will notify recipients before July 1, 2026.

  • Mini grants will not be awarded for event sponsorships. These funds are to be used for a specific program.
